A Spiritual Path to Higher Foolishness
for Writers, Performers and Other Humans

Wednesdays,  January 20 & 27, 7 - 9 p.m.

LOCATION The Village at Ed Gould Plaza

INSTRUCTOR Beth Lapides & Greg Miller

FORMAT 2-Week Course

PREREQUISITE None

Your most authentic Self is contained not in how funny you are, but in how you are funny.

The Comedian's Way gives you the insights and tools you need to discover and uncover your funniest self. We'll help you uncover your personal organic comedy style using our proven tools and techniques. You’ll get the chance to explore original material — and receive specific personalized notes and assignments to take your work to the next level and integrate it into your life.

SPECIFIC WORK

YOUR OWN PERSONAL SUTRA
The sutras are the sacred threads of yoga philosophy. The instructors will help you identify the central threads that run through the mala of your life and understand how to use them as the basis of your humor. Because without the thread, it’s just a bunch of beads.

THE PRESENT
Learn to harness the power of Now – and the power of Not Right Now -- including specific skills for getting and staying in the moment.

ATTITUDE
Lots of things happen in life, but our reactions and attitudes shape our experiences and turn them from a series of events into a story. It’s also what makes something funny.

DIMENSIONALITY
Braided strands give a thread its strength – and sustain interest. The instructors will help you identify at least 3 dimensions of your personality and use them to generate more humor, depth and that distinct flavor that makes you “You.”

DYNAMICS
Twists, surprises and changes in your life give your story its shape and make any ‘performance’ compelling. You can learn to amplify and exaggerate your natural comic instincts.

VOICE
“Voice” in comedy includes your distinctive rhythm and other voices – your dialog with others in your story, and the conversation with your audience.

PROCESS
The Page-to-Stage System – Writing and speaking work different brain lobes and different comedy muscles. Participants in this workshop will practice both. When you integrate the two, you create an infinity loop that will minimize writers block and stage fright and maximize creativity. This workshop also includes our version of “fire-walking”: speaking into a microphone to a room full of people.

RESULTS
The Comedian’s Way workshop will send you home feeling invigorated, refreshed and empowered. You’ll come to a deeper understanding of yourself, be able to communicate more effectively, understand how to nurture your own creativity and generate more funny-ness for page, stage, screen and/or daily life.
