The Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center proudly presents the new play by artist-in-residence Adelina Anthony! THE BEAST OF TIMES is a satirical and queer allegory set in our world, where environmental and ethnic diversity are quickly becoming passé. It's like Portlandia meets the animals from The Far Side comic strip, but with sexy progressive queer-people-of-color politics!

SPECIAL, ONE-NIGHT-ONLY EVENT! FRIDAY, JULY 12!

NONA HENDRYX
RE-WIRED

 Nona-Hendryx-web.jpg

The extraordinary Nona Hendryx is one of the most exciting, original, two-fisted artists of our time. From her early work with Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles and later with the smash hit group LaBelle, Nona has consistently explored the outer frontiers of music and art.

Nona Hendryx Re-Wired features a mix of new/unreleased works and older material composed and performed by Hendryx. “Busting Out,” “Why Should I Cry,” “Skindiver,” and “Can I Speak To You Before You Go To Hollywood?” are a few of the songs re-imagined and re-wired by Nona and 20 Electronic Production & Design students and faculty at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Nona uses the latest music technology equipment, including sensors developed by the students, as well as commercially available controllers. A robot (M.I.T)—a Mini Interactive Tutu—will also be a part of the show, performing a duet with Nona!

Wireless 'sound manipulation,' creating unique and strangely beautiful vocals, are controlled by a hand gestures. A wireless glove transmits signals that twist, turn, stretch and freeze Nona's soulful vocals over rhythmic and melodic backgrounds.
The show reflects Hendryx’s broad range of musical ideas and interests, from ambient, atmospheric work to funky, rhythm & blues influenced rock and pop.
Nona Hendryx Re-Wired will be one of the events of the summer! It's being performed in conjunction with the opening of our newest Gallery exhibit: Electric Summer, featuring the art of Ms. Hendryx and Gina Rafaela.
