The celebrated artistic team of Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner agreed to lend their names to create the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center.  It includes two theaters and two linked gallery spaces located at our Village at Ed Gould Plaza.  Original funds for the cultural center were generously contributed by the Silva Watson Moonwalk Fund, a San Francisco charitable organization established by Douglas Watson and Larry Silva.

In the Center’s theaters you’ll find original shows that make you laugh, make you think and spark dialogue about LGBT issues. Sometimes lighthearted, sometimes controversial, the productions illuminate the trials, triumphs and truths of our lives, celebrate our uniqueness, and contribute to making our environment a place of integrity and joy.

When you buy tickets for a show or purchase art at the gallery, you also support the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center. Net proceeds from all ticket and art sales help fund the array of free and low-cost services the Center offers.

The Renberg Theatre

At the 200-seat Renberg Theatre, you can see the highest-quality theater, music and comedy. Shows that spotlight celebrity artists as well as shows that launch new careers take stage at the Renberg.

Named in honor of Center supporter Dan Renberg, the facility has excellent acoustics, complete professional lighting grids and boards, a new movie screen, 16mm and 35mm projectors and full video-projection capability. The Dolby company contributed Dolby sound cards, and Tom Holman of THX fame donated his time and expertise to design an entirely new surround-sound system.

The Advocate and Gochis Galleries

A unique, progressive space, the Advocate and Gochis Galleries host exhibits of high-caliber works by emerging and well-known artists. The galleries also promote the central importance of art in our identities and experience. The spacious outer gallery (named for The Advocate magazine), with its sightlines open to The Village’s central Courtyard, is complemented by the intimate inner Gochis gallery, honoring longtime friends of the Center Bess & Em Gochis.
