LifeWorks Mentorship Program

Anyone under 24 years old is eligible. There is no charge—we are happy to welcome you to the Center. You can complete an application online by clicking here.

You get to choose from our 130+ mentors from a variety of cultural backgrounds, interests, education and careers.

You and your mentor will decide what to do, you will be asked to communicate around 3 to 4 hours a month.

You are in control of your own mentorship. You start by choosing your mentor from a pool of mentors. You can text, talk on the phone, Zoom, be active in the community, or even grab lunch. You choose the goals.

Relax! A “goal” is simply something which you’d like to do or achieve. Start small. Goals center around a wide range of areas of interest, including community, career, physical health, relationships, personal development, and beyond.

Yes! At the Center, we have alternative educational options to help with GED or high school diploma. Mentors can assist with college applications. Each year, we assist youth with over $40,000 in scholarships for continued education. 

Don’t sweat it! You do not need to be nor should you feel pressured to come out. However, a mentor can have the experience you need to start taking those first steps if you choose.

We offer a holistic model of care that includes a wide range of services—everything from housing to nutrition, mental health and healthcare, legal services and education, and beyond. If you’re ever interested in learning more, you can visit us during our Youth Center drop-in hours to learn more.

Yes, we currently facilitate a new mentor orientation that is 4 hours via Zoom. Orientations occur every other month.

Yes, all interested applicants who are accepted must complete a Live Scan background check in order to proceed with orientation. You can find the nearest Live Scan office here. Unfortunately, we do not cover or reimburse costs associated with this process. 

Our program has an existing and growing mentor network of over 150 volunteers, of which mentees get to select one or more individuals to meet for possible mentorship. The mentor network youth review shows a person’s academic and career background, as well as interests, hobbies, gender identity, and geographic location.

You can do any activity you and your mentee are comfortable doing together. Some activities we have seen folks enjoy together include: movie nights, cafe spots, theme parks, and Center events. We also go into more details regarding this topic during the training.

Though one of the key focuses of the program is working on goals, we understand that for many youth, all they need sometimes is someone to talk to. It’s essential you guide the mentee without being too prescriptive or directive—that’s what makes for a mutually beneficial relationship!
