Rapid (oral or blood)-- This is an oral or finger-stick test that provides results in 20 minutes. Traditional -- A vial of blood, drawn from your arm, is tested for the antibodies that are found in people who are HIV-infected. Results are available when you return one week later. NAAT (nucleic acid amplification test) -- This test, which normally costs hundreds of dollars, can determine whether someone is HIV-infected just three to four weeks after exposure, compared to three to six months with all other tests. Results are available (only in person) when you return  10 or more days later. Available only at the McDonald/Wright Building. These are all preliminary tests.  Any test that registers as HIV-positive is re-checked with a confirmatory test. * Anonymous testing means you don’t tell us your name. We track the test results through a unique identifying code, and there is no printed report of the results provided to you. * Confidential testing means your results will be tracked by your name and you will receive a printed report of the results with your name. If you test HIV-positive, we notify health officials that an individual tested HIV-positive.
